Defense Waste Processing Facility at SRS

Posted by in Home Improvement Tips, on September 22, 2016

This year marked the 20th anniversary of another key component of our tank waste treatment system at Savannah River — operations of the Defense Waste Processing Facility.

DWPF vitrifies the high-level waste taken from the tanks for eventual off-site disposal. To date, the facility has produced 4,000 canisters of vitrified waste.

That work is made possible by people like Regina Brown.

o You can hear from her how proud she and the other workers at Savannah River are of the history of DWPF and their roles in helping us to clean up the site.
